Bookish Meme

So I was looking around reading a lot of different blogs, when I came across this meme over at Steph Su Reads. She had posted many but there was only one that I really wanted to do.

Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback?
In all honesty, it doesn't really matter to me, most of the time. I love hardcover because it takes a lot more to destroy them, but sometimes I just like paperback. Im wierd like that. I take very good care of my books though and dont loan them out anymore. I once loaned my copy of Twilight to a friend and when I got it back it looked like this....

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
I would have to say both. I love going to Barnes & Noble, I love the atmosphere there. Also the Starbucks :D But I also have a Borders rewards card that comes in very very handy.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
I HATE dog-earing! Like I said before I take really good care of my books and that is one thing that I hate to do because it destroys the pages. I don't care if I even have a bookmark handy I will use a sticky or just something laying in front of me.

Amazon or brick-and-mortar?
I do buy some books on Amazon because sometimes you can get really good deals but there is nothing better than going into the store and looking at books. Holding them and seeing the actual cover is so much better than seeing it on a screen.

Alphabetize by author, or alphabetize by title, or random?
Well I put the series' together but other than that its pretty random. And when I say random I mean RANDOM :) Just remembered I also have The Host by Stephenie Meyer but my step mom is reading it right now, so its not in the picture.
Keep, throw away, or sell?
I have always kept all of my books. I have more than are the picture above, they are just packed up somewhere and were from my childhood. It never mattered if I didnt completely like the book I keep them.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
I have to have the dusk jackets or I go nuts! They are annoying when your reading but they help protect your books!

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
Kind of answered that one already :) I cannot stand to read with them on, so I take them off and put them up for safe keeping and then when I'm done with the books I put them back.

Short story or novel?
Definitely novels. Short stories are okay sometimes but I like to sit down and read for hours on end. You get more details and the stories are usually better.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Thats a hard one. I have not finished either series completely. I finished the first 3 Harry Potter books but the movies started coming out faster than I could read the books. My family owns all of them and I will eventually read them but right now I dont really wanna. They seem to be pretty good but I cant really judge between the two till I finish both. I have gotten all the way to either 10 or 11 on the Lemony Snicket. Which I started reading in like 8th grade and at the time I loved them. I own the 12th one but havent read it yet. It was my friends and then two years ago there was this really bad ice storm where we lost power for two weeks straight and a snowglobe I had broke, not quite sure how, and spilt all over the book so I got her a new one. Its not horribly ruined but I felt bad.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
It really depends. If its a really interesting part and im not too entirely tired, I prefer to stop at the chapter breaks. But there are those times when I am reading and I am so tired that I cant keep my eyes open, that I will stop right where I am at and pick up there in the morning.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
Thats a hard one for me, I definitely love the Once upon a time fairytale type of story, about the princess and the handsome prince and all that but at the same time give me a mystery "It was a dark and stormy night" anytime.

Buy or borrow?
Usually I just borrow from the library because I usually can't afford to spend money on books but every once in a while I like to kind of treat myself. If I really want the book then I will most likely buy it but I am afraid of wasting money on a book that I am not going to like. I do alot of research before just buying one.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
I usually read a lot of reviews when I decide the get a book but sometimes I'll just pick up a books and if it sounds really good to me then I will get it. Not very often though.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
i can't pick between those. I definitely love a book that can stand alone and has a great ending where there are no questions left over but sometimes a cliffhanger is great! I dont like cliffhangers in stand alone novels though, only in a series. I just finish The Summoning and the cliffhanger at the end of that one is amazing and makes me want to read the Awakening so bad!!

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
I mostly read at night when I am trying to fall asleep, but I do read periodically through out the day. If I am bored and have nothing else to do, or if I am reading a really good book that I want to know what is gonna happen I will pick it up and read for hours.

Stand-alone or series?
Stand-alones are great, but give me a series any day. With a series you usually get more of a story and can get more into the book. There arent many stand alones that I would read over again. Once is usually enough for me.

Favorite series?
This one is kinda hard but the most recent series I have read would have to be my favorite so far. That would be the House of Night books. They are amazing and I am a sucker for a vampire story. I think the Darkest Powers series is about to knock them out though. (The Summoning & The Awakening)

Favorite children’s book?
My favorite childrens book would have to be The Enormous Egg by Oliver Butterworth. I read this when I was in like 2nd grade and loved it. It is the only book that sticks in my mind when I think back that far. Also a book about a moose because that my last name but I cant remember the book name.

Favorite YA book?
As of right now my favorite YA book would have to be The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong. That book was amazing!

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
I think my favorite book that a lot of people havent heard of is Perfect by Natasha Friend. I read it a couple years ago and loved it.

Favorite books read last year?
I really didn't read many books last year but the books that I did read were Eclipse and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. I love to read but haven't started reading like I use to until this year.

Favorite books of all time?
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O' Dell
Perfect by Natasha Friend

What are you reading right now?
Audrey, Wait! By Robin Benway

What are you reading next?
Probably Madapple by Christina Meldrum. Its sitting at the top of my tbr pile.

Favorite book to recommend to an 11-year-old?
It would probably have to be Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I read it in the 7th grade and loved it so...

Favorite book to re-read?
I would have to say the Twilight saga. I know there has been a lot of hype about them but I really want to read them again and completely refresh my mind. I remember most of it but there are little details I want to remember.

Do you ever smell books?
ABSOLUTELY! I love smelling brand new books. There's nothing like it. I also like to feel the pages of new notebooks. They're so soft and smooth! :P Im a dork I know.

Do you ever read primary source documents like letters or diaries?
I have to say that i never have. Unless you count Night by Elie Wiesel. That was an amazing book about his life during the Holocaust!!

Yay for Madapple, I hope you really enjoy it!

Also, books should never be treated the way your friend treated the copy of Twilight you loaned her. WTF, did she bring it to a cage fight or what?
